An article concluding that AI will disorient most people in ways they aren’t prepared for was in the news last week. Among other things, the article discussed how “AI could compress a century of medical research into a decade. Cancer, Alzheimer’s, infectious disease, aging itself… these researchers genuinely believe these are solvable within our lifetimes.” It also offered advice for high school and college students – “the people most likely to thrive are the ones who are deeply curious, adaptable, and effective at using AI to do things they actually care about. Teach your kids to be builders and learners, not to optimize for a career path that might not exist by the time they graduate.”

As the article states, to get the best results with AI, you need to use the paid versions of ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, etc. If you are only using free versions of AI, you aren’t going to be too worried about it taking over anything.

While the article “Something Big is Happening” and the author (who builds AI products) were both lauded and criticized last week, AI is clearly going to be a disrupter, and it is anyone’s guess exactly what the world looks like in 5 years (or even two!). Read the article (it’s very long) and come to your own conclusions.

For our technically minded and software engineering clients: Claude published a guide for how to customize it for your specific needs instead of re-explaining your preferences each time.

In security news, AI can now mimic the voice and video of your loved ones as well as spoof a phone number, making it even more important that you establish a passphrase with your loved ones that you don’t repeat near any electronic devices. Be very cautious of any electronic communications that seem urgent, even when supposedly from a family member! Trust but verify!
